Frankly Lia Photoclip

This is a photo slide show for my friend's wedding. I want to make a different slide show. So I decided to break some of the photos into little parts and animate them. Dealt with masking a lot xD but it was fun :D

I did everything on AE. Except for the opening scene..done on Lightwave..

The result..well, pretty satisfying :)

As Above So Below

This time, the purpose is to make the first two spreads of the story book titled "As Above So Below". I didn't fully use Illustrator for this assignment. Did the painting on Photoshop, and then do the typos on Illustrator :)

Didn't count the hours..but I'm pretty satisfied.

Feel free to comment :)

Stop Men's Violence Against Women Campaign

Just a random "studio" photography attempt.. We were shooting an advertisement for an anti-smoking campaign, and the woman who we shoot with suggested us to take some picture for her friend who is a public speaker about this movement. I tried to experiment with side lighting to give the dramatic atmosphere, and then...I used the grunge texture and different color tone for each of the picture, and of course, the name and the country where we are from. It gives the "international" feel on it ahahahaha Well, pretty satisfied for a "just for fun" project.

And here's the movement's link : http://www.voicesofmen.org

Billy the Bear Storybook Page

"Billy the Bear cried because it was raining outside and he couldn't play..
..but he remembered once an old friend told him..
..he still could smile even though it's raining outside..

..and then, Billy the Bear realized that being happy is a decision."

Haha just a random painting in a gloomy morning..trying to mimic a children story book while trying new inking style :) spent 2.5 hours to finish this.

It turned out pretty good, I guess..I'm pretty satisfied..

Feel free to comment :)

Dawn - The Beginning

“The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.” (anonymous)

The random piece of the day :)
Inspired by the starting spring..and Owl City's Vanilla Twilight..

Wanted to portray the dawn - beginning of the day in a ruin - somewhere :)
I tried to use the sweet - vanilla-ish - romantic color combination to evoke the warm feeling..to evoke the new hope of the coming day.

I think it was pretty successful..I really like the inking style..just my personal preference though..and also the paper texture! It becomes more..sketchy..haha

Flash Interactive - Thematic Typography

The purpose of this assignment is to make an interactive flash movie using startDrag and the previous thematic typography design. So in the animation, I showed the transformation from the ORIGINAL - THEMED - FULL COMPOSITE. Just move the mouse across the box to reveal the transformation. I also put 3 modes in this movie, so the viewer can control which transformation mode he/she wants to see. To change the mode, just click inside the black box.

Using the startDrag command is easy, but the challenge is to make some transformation modes available. At first, I tried to put multiple masks with multiple startDrag commands..which was...a total failure..haha I later found out that startDrag can control one mask at a time only. So I finally decided to make some transformation modes rather than multiple transformations at once. After playing with the script for awhile, finally I found the way to do it XD

Well, I'm satisfied with the result because I'm not so good with codes..haha

You can view the animation here .

P.S. The link is updated and works! :)

Thematic Typography Design

The purpose of this assignment is to make a theme that will go along with a word using texture/pattern. I chose MAP for my word. I wanted to mimic a set of miniature buildings, so I used the bird eye view pictures from BING MAP and combined them altogether to make the texture of the word.

I only used Photoshop for this assignment. The main challenge is to make the 2D design seems like a 3D. Spent like 5 hours on this piece.

Pretty satisfied with result :)

Online Photo gallery

The purpose of this assignment is to make an online photo gallery. I used Galleria for the template and edited it a little bit. I put some random pictures from the past inside..and voila! Here it is :) it's a simple way to make an online photo gallery, and it is very useful.

Lakewood Beach Resort Website

The purpose of this assignment is to make a website using CSS template. And...here it is! A Lakewood Beach Resort website! :D obviously a fake one..yes.

Just did some editing using Dreamweaver, not so much, didn't spend a lot of time also. The result is pretty straight-forward. Not the best website ever..but it will provide you enough infos about the resort xD

Dusty Triceratops

The purpose of this assignment is to paint on 3D model using 3D Coat. I tried to make a dusty triceratops doll. I used fabric texture and added some fur texture to create some dusty-old feeling.

It turned out quite well..next time I will try on a more complicated model.

Radiowaves - REAL RANDOM WORDS

The purpose of this assignment is to make an animation of a phrase using radiowave effect. I found this tutorial was very hard because of the effect itself. It was hard to make a clear-readable word animation. So finally I came up with the phrase "REAL RANDOM WORDS" and this was the best. The lag using this effect was unbearable..haha so I didn't edit much.

Well, it's not so satisfying for me. Not so bad, but not the one I'm proud of..haha

IMAGE Production

The purpose of this assignment is to do a tutorial. Well, I chose a TRON Title Tutorial from the videocopilot.net and added some fun stuffs :)

Played around with the optical flares, and had fun with the scores. Pretty satisfied with this piece, it looks cool :)

Flashcards

When I got the list for the first time, I laughed myself out. I immediately remember the Fallout 3 '50 American vintage design. And that's where I went. So I tried to bring the retro-grungy look for the design. It kinda fits with the twisted-sanity theme LOL

It was a tough job to mimic the retro design - which uses solid colors and bold outline. At first, I tried using Illustrator and Painter, which wasn't really good enough. So I went away and used Photoshop entirely, using the solid brush and layer style combination. It worked pretty well :)

I want to emphasize the fight and confusion in someone's mind. That's why all of the scenes are placed in front of a plain brick wall with intersection and harsh lighting. It shows the desolation and uncertainty of the person.

Every piece is my favorite. Haha I like the paranoia in "someone will hurt you" and "voice when no one is around" as well as the horror-cliche scene in "hurt someone else" and the comedy in "hurt yourself".

Well, I'm satisfied with this project :) I hope they would be useful too..hahaha

Brush Artwork

The purpose of this assignment is to make custom brushes in Illustrator and Photoshop. Just created some random brushes here and there :) I didn't spend much time on this assignment because I was also doing the SLAM cover art. But well, yeah..satisfying? So-so I guess..not the one that I can be proud of, but not bad either..haha

SLAM Cover 02 - SLAM Desk

Another SLAM Cover art. This time I used NewTek Lightwave. Just wanted to bring the "morning" mood - where you read a book while enjoying a cup of coffee. Used some lighting, and volumetric lighting also. Reduced the quality due to the deadline..haha but anyway, it turns out pretty good.

SLAM Cover 01 - Pencil Knight

The purpose of this assignment is to make a SLAM cover. It's an art and literary magazine, so I made a literature fighter for the cover. Yes, he uses pencil as his weapon and book as his shield :)

I tried Painter 11 for the first time for this piece. I used Photoshop to add the adjustment layer and the glow on his armor. Spent the total of 8 hours to finish it. Pretty satisfied with the result. The proportion is somewhat odd..haha but I really like the scarf :D

Treasure Hunt

The purpose of this assignment is to make a pop-up animation using After Effects. At first, I wanted to make a "book opening" animation, and the pop-ups inside. But it's so hard to do with After Effects alone. So I decided to make a treasure map instead, and put the pop-up animation on the map.

The longest process was to come up with a story instead of a plain animation only and finalize the idea. O yeah, making the falling paper looks realistic was also taking much time (it's pretty satisfying) I also tried some new AE plugins such as the optical flares etc in this animation.

Well, it was a fun assignment. I really like the result (and the Kraken LOL).

Elvish Font - Lower Case

This is the lower case, number, and few symbols of the Elvish font I made.

Good Morning Seattle

The assignment is to make an animation using Flash' brush masking. To make things more interesting visually, I chose a series of photographs with different focuses. I made the order in Photoshop, and then I animated them using the masking and blur tool in Flash. I added some finishing touch using the AFterEffects.

It was pretty satisfying, the change of focus really made it interesting though it's very simple.

Font Sheet - Elvish

The elvish runes! :) watched The LoTR movie on weekend. And I thought that it would be cool if I make some elvish runes. So, I made this font set. Made the swirls and the dots to give the rune feeling.

Pretty satisfied with the progress..will add some more details on lower letters I guess..

Japanese Lantern

The most detailed digital painting I've ever made! :D drew everything from the scratch, trying to use custom brushes. Did many reworks because of the proportion problems. The kimono pattern was a real pain on the neck. But anyway, I'm satisfied. I learned new skills during the process.

Spent some good 19-20 hours using Wacom Intuos4 on Photoshop.

Me, me , and myself xD

My name is Stephanus. I'm from Indonesia. Art and gaming have always been my passion. I started to love drawing when I was still a kid, and then I went to an art school in Singapore after I graduated from high school. After that, I worked as a multimedia designer and did jobs in many different media. I also worked as a wedding photographer for fun. After some years doing all those stuffs, I got a chance to study in the US for one year. So I went to US, to broaden my horizon and meet new people, set new opportunities. Of course I'm learning new things also.

My future job is kinda separated into some options: a concept designer, a movie compositor, or a professional photographer. Until I decide what I really will do in future, I just want to be excellent in what I'm doing now while learning new things. Maybe I'll end up being a multimedia designer, let's see..haha xD
